The toggle is a DPDT switch wired across a DC motor. Flipped on, it sends the battery to the motor one way: the arm rises, pushes the door open and rests against it, and its pin pushes the lever back over centre. That reverses the motor through the limit switch, so the arm retracts, the door's torsion springs pull it shut behind it, and the arm settles on the limit switch's leaf, which opens the circuit. Every lead plugs into a small board on the base. Front and right walls removed. It comes apart in three steps, one per axis: the lid, mechanism and battery lift along Z; the arm and gears slide off their shafts along Y; the clip and cells slide out along X.
